Seeking Approval

  • Are you involved with the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance fire detection and alarm and/or fixed fire suppression systems?

  • Do you maintain portable fire extinguishers?

  • Are you fully aware that recent legislative changes across England, Scotland and Wales have had important implications for fire safety in business, public and multi-tenanted premises?

Your customers are becoming increasingly aware of the implications of the fire regulations and the need to provide evidence that their fire protection is fit for purpose and is installed and maintained by "competent persons". The owner and/or occupier designated responsible person, must ensure that the regulations are complied with and risk prosecution if they fail to do this.

The responsible person must be able to provide evidence that their fire system is fit for purpose, being designed, installed, commissioned and maintained in accordance with the relevant British Standards and that any portable fire extinguishers are properly maintained.

Third Party Certification, such as through NSI's Fire Gold and Fire Silver approval schemes which are accredited by BAFE, is the most effective way to prove to your customers that your company is competent.  Once approved, you will be entitled to use the appropriate NSI Fire and BAFE logos.

NSI approves fire protection companies involved in three areas:

NSI inspects companies to the requirements of the BAFE adopted schemes SP201 and SP203These schemes are acknowledged by the Fire & Rescue Services, Government, Insurers and the fire industry as helping companies involved in fire protection prove their competence.
